London-based Facebook users took part in a poll today to identify their favourite digital / satellite TV channel. The winner, E4, was no surprise at all. But the scores for the other channels were more interesting. Discovery Channel scored almost as strongly as Sky One, while Virgin (who have strengthend their programming in recent weeks) scored just 3%. My guess is Sky One staff will be disappointed, while Virgin will hope this is the start of an increase to take them toward the 5-10% share in viewer favourites. As this may help make the channel a viable business in its own right. Sky Sports, unsurprisingly, scored around a quarter of those polled. I’ve found several surveys stating half of all men are interested in watching sports and half not. Facebook surveys balance gender entries when requested as a criteria, so this result seems in keeping with larger survey samples.
