Banksy erased by order of the local council
07Mar09
‘One Nation Under CCTV’ is possibly the most prominent Banksy artwork in London’s West End, although I prefer the work inside MPC’s office in Soho myself.
Sadly Westminster Council have instructed the Royal Mail, owners of the property the ‘One Nation Under CCTV’ street art is painted on, to cover over the graffiti. Is there perhaps a small irony in the local government white washing over the political statement made in the artwork?
Maybe it would have been more appropriate to sell the artwork, to raise a little extra funding in the current economic environment? Although I wouldn’t like the task of having to remove the piece whilst leaving the building it is painted on intact.
